The police custody of Pamela Goswami, the BJP youth wing leader who was arrested in Kolkata for possession of cocaine last month, and another person held along with her, has been extended by a NDPS court till March 18.

Goswami is facing charges under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.  About 100 grams of cocaine was found in the BJYM leader’s handbag and from her car, following which she and another person were arrested in drugs case on February 20.

She had alleged conspiracy behind the cocaine incident and that the cocaine pouches were “planted”. She also accused BJP leader Rakesh Singh, considered close to senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya. Singh was arrested a few days later and was on Tuesday denied bail.

The police told the Alipore Court, during Singh’s bail hearing, that he and his men may be behind framing Goswami in drugs case, a claim Singh has denied. Singh had earlier said he has not been in touch with Goswami for over a year and that she was “brainwashed” by the ruling TMC and Kolkata Police.

Before joining politics, Goswami was an air hostess, a model and television actress. She had joined the saffron party in 2019.
