Cricketer Manoj Tiwary  joined West Bengal ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC), ahead of the state assembly polls, on Wednesday (February 24)


Cricketer Manoj Tiwary joined West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC), ahead of the state assembly polls, on Wednesday (February 24). He joined the TMC during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Hooghly district.

Tiwary had earlier tweeted a link to his Instagram political profile, stating that “a new journey” will begin today.

“A new journey begins from today. Need all your love & support. From now onwards this will be my political profile on Instagram,” Tiwary tweeted.

Tiwary has represented the Indian cricket team in ODIs and T20. He currently represents West Bengal in domestic cricket and has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and Rising Pune Supergiants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Tiwary had reacted to cricketers and other personalities who had tweeted against the international personalities, such as American pop star Rihanna and teen climate activist, Greta Thunberg, for extending their support to farmers’ protest in India. “When I was a kid, I never saw a puppet show. It took me 35 years to see one,” he tweeted.

There have been several defections of TMC leaders to the BJP over the last months.
