India batsman Rohit Sharma is set to fly to Australia after clearing his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on Friday (December 11).

Rohit, who was ruled out of the limited-overs leg of the tour Down Under, passed the fitness test under the supervision of NCA director Rahul Dravid. The Mumbai right-hander will now be available for the final two Tests in Sydney (Jan 7 to 11) and Brisbane (Jan 15 to 19).

He will leave for Australia soon, a BCCI official told news agency PTI. “Rohit has cleared the fitness Test and will soon be flying out to Australia,” a senior BCCI official said on condition of anonymity.

After his arrival in Australia, Rohit will have to undergo mandatory 14-day quarantine. The four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts in Adelaide on December 17 with a day/night contest.

Rohit had sustained a hamstring injury during IPL 2020 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). After that he was undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Skipper Virat Kohli had said there was a lot of confusion and there was no clarity with regard to Rohit’s injury.

“Before the selection meeting, we got a mail that he is unavailable, that he has picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him and he understood and he was unavailable,” Kohli said last month.

“After that he played in the IPL and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia and we had no information on why he is not travelling with us. There has been no information, there has been lack of clarity…We have been playing the waiting game,” he added.
