Sindhu beats China's Chen Yufei, storms into Indonesia Open finals

Indian shuttler P V Sindhu reached the finals of the Indonesia Open 2019 with a 21-19, 21-10 win over China’s Chen Yufei in 46 minutes, on Saturday (July 20).

This is Sindhu’s first final this year after struggling with an indifferent form in the first half.

Against her Chinese opponent Chen Yufei, Sindhu struggled in the first game and was trailing 14-18 at one stage. She upped her game in the closing stages by first levelling scores at 18 and then racing ahead to a 21-19 win.

The match started with a long rally but Sindhu fell behind at 4-7. The Indian then scored five straight points due to Chen’s bad shots. However, a body smash from the Chinese grabbed her an 11-10 advantage.

Even after the break Sindhu trailed with 15-12 but managed to tie the score at 18-18. Another rally decided that Sindhu grabbed the first game. Similarly, Chen’s misjudged shots in the second game made Sindhu unstoppable after a sedate start. She opened up a big lead at the midway mark and went on to win 21-10.

Her opponent had no answer to Sindhu’s deft placements and cross-court shots.
In a game played at a thrilling pace, she gave Yufei a trip of the court, ultimately leaving the opponent with no answers to her brilliant smashes and defence too.

The Badminton Association of India congratulated Sindhu on its official twitter handle.”Superrrrrr Sindhu!!! What a performance from the World No 5 @Pvsindhu1, dominated the proceeding to reach the finals of #BlibliIndonesiaOpen2019 defeating World No 3 #ChenYuFei 21:19 21:10 Way to go girl!  Go for Gold! #IndiaontheRise #badminton”.

Sindhu will face Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the finals on Sunday (July 21). Sindhu holds a 10-4 advantage over Yamaguchi, whom she has beaten in the last four meetings.
