IPL playoffs in Kolkata, Ahmedabad with 100% capacity: BCCI chief


Full capacity of spectators will be allowed for the IPL 2022 playoffs to be played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, the Indian cricket board has confirmed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly also confirmed that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad would host this edition’s IPL final on May 29. It will also host Qualifier 2 on May 27.

On May 24, Qualifier 1 will be played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The same venue will host the Eliminator the next day.

For the first time in two years, IPL matches have got the nod to play in front of full stadiums. The ongoing league games, that are being played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune, have been allowed only 50% of the stadium capacity. Initially, it was 25%.

“As far as the men’s IPL knockout stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with 100% attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22,” Ganguly said after a BCCI apex council meeting of the board on Saturday (April 23).

He also said that the three-team Women’s T20 challenger will be held in Lucknow from May 24 to 28.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also announced the schedule and venues for India’s five-match T20I home series against South Africa starting on June 9. Delhi, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bengaluru will host the matches.
