It was a brilliant comeback by KKR, both in the batting and bowling departments. First, they posted 171/9 and then kept the home team to 166/8.

Early troubles

After opting to bat first, KKR were reduced to 35/3 in 4.4 overs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out for a golden duck. Venkatesh Iyer (7) and Jason Roy (20) followed soon.

Middle-order recovery

Captain Nitish Rana (42), Rinku Singh (46) and Andre Russell (24) revived the KKR innings and helped them post a respectable total.

SRH’s shaky start

Like KKR, SRH too did not have a good start. In the run chase, they were in deep trouble at 54/4 in 6.2 overs.

Markram-Klaasen partnership

SRH captain Aiden Markram (41) and his compatriot Heinrich Klaasen (36) put the run chase back on track with a 70-run partnership. When they were in the middle, it looked like SRH would win comfortably. However, things changed once they were dismissed.

Chakravarthy stops SRH

KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarty (1/20 in 4 overs) was the star as he turned the game in the final overs. When SRH needed 38 off 30, Chakravarthy bowled 18 of those balls and conceded just 8 runs including 8 dot balls, and also got a wicket (Abdul Samad). He also bowled the final over when the required runs were 9. He was adjudged the Player of the match.

Thakur scalps big wicket

With 48 needed off 36, Shardul Thakur took the crucial wicket of Klaasen on the first ball of the 15th over.
