After starting their IPL 2025 campaign with a four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 23, CSK have struggled. Since then, they have lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and KKR.

What Dhoni said

Ahead of Friday’s game against Kolkata, CSK were dealt a huge blow when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the rest of the season with an elbow fracture. The franchise re-appointed Dhoni as captain for the remainder of IPL 2025.

CSK are now in ninth position in the IPL 2025 points table with two points from six matches.

Speaking after the match, Dhoni said, “It has been quite a few nights that has not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge. Today I felt we did not have enough runs on the board. It has been the case over there, when we bowled in the second innings it stopped a bit, today it did in the first innings. When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure and with quality spinners it is difficult.”
