The Federal, an English news venture of New Generation Media Corporation Private Limited Chennai, has won the gold prize in prestigious South Asian Digital Media Awards in the ‘data visualisation’ category for the year 2020.
The awards, sponsored by The World Association of News Publishers or WAN-IFRA, recognize news publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major challenges in how people consume news and information today.
The Federal won the first prize (Gold) for its ‘Perseverance Mars Mission 2020’ package, which grabbed the jury’s attention for its three-dimensional interactive graphic of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s ambitious Mars sojourn that took off in July and will reach its destination in February next year.

South Asian Digital Media Awards are presented in 10 different categories, including Best Website, Audience Engagement, Native Advertising/Branded Content, Paid Content Strategy, News Literacy and COVID-19 Projects among others.
Twenty judges from across the globe evaluated the entries and selected winners. The winners (see the comprehensive list below) will be presented trophies and shall be honoured virtually at the upcoming Digital Media India 2021 Conference on 2-4 March next year, said Magdoom Mohamed, Managing Director of WAN-IFRA South Asia, Chennai.

The winners of the regional awards compete for the World Digital Media Awards, competing with other winners from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America. The world award winners will be announced next year.
