Sushant death case: Two drug peddlers held for alleged links with Rhea’s brother

The arrest of two drug peddlers from Mumbai in a day in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case may just open the Pandora’s Box and expose a big drug cartel operating in the country’s financial capital, say sources.

The arrest of two drug peddlers from Mumbai in a day in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case may just open the Pandora’s Box and expose a big drug cartel operating in the country’s financial capital, say sources.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said on Wednesday (September 2) that it has arrested Abdul Basit Parihar from Bandra area of Mumbai. “He had connection with Samuel Miranda, who is accused of procuring drugs on instructions of Showik Chakraborty (the brother of prime accused and Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty),” news agency ANI quoted NCB as saying.

Miranda is Rajput’s former housekeeping manager. He was appointed by Rhea Chakraborty in May last year to manage all the household expenses. Rajput’s family has accused Miranda of helping Chakraborty in siphoning off his money and supplying the drugs.

The NCB also arrested Zaid Vilatra from Mumbai. News agency PTI quoted NCB officials in suggesting that Zaid was involved in the supply of narcotics to high-end party circles of Mumbai.

The NCB’s scope of investigation is much larger though. “Our probe is different. While we have registered a case against Rhea and others, we have a clear cut mandate that we will probe the whole drug cartel in Mumbai,” NCB sources told Republic TV.

The drug probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput case gained momentum after several WhatsApp communications between Rhea and alleged drug peddlers became public.

Rhea Chakraborty has been questioned for around 35 hours by the CBI in the last four days.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has called Chakraborty’s father for second round of questioning on Wednesday (September 2). Rhea’s parents were first questioned by the CBI on Tuesday.

Rhea’s brother Showik is was also questioned by the CBI on Tuesday. Rhea and her parents are among those named in the FIR registered by the Patna Police after a complaint from Rajput’s family who have accused her of abetting Sushant’s suicide and misappropriating his money.

Sushant Singh Rajput (34) was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14. In August mid week, the Supreme Court upheld the transfer of the FIR lodged in Patna to the CBI.
