“Should I step down?” Elon Musk asks in a Twitter poll

In his latest poll, Twitter Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has asked if he should “step down as the head of Twitter”. Musk has said that he will abide by the results of the poll.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk tweeted, following it up with a warning: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”

Hours to deadline

The poll is still some hours away from its deadline and is currently leaning towards people wanting him removed as Twitter CEO.

The decision comes hours after he announced that Twitter will remove accounts “created solely” to promote other social media platforms. Accounts promoting rivals and containing links to sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon will be taken down, the company said on Sunday.

Twitter said that it still allows cross-posting content from any social media platform. “Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy.”

Musk also said that in future he will hold votes on all major policy changes.

Controversial Musk

Musk took over Twitter in October and since then has been in controversies. His takeover was followed by mass lay-offs and major policy changes, including allowing back previously banned users on the social media site.

On Thursday, Twitter suspended the accounts of several journalists with the site showing “account suspended” notices for them. After severe public backlash, the accounts were restored.

On Friday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was ‘very disturbed’ by Elon Musk’s suspension of journalists from Twitter and calls it a dangerous precedent.
