Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth on his 70th birthday on Saturday.
“Dear @rajinikanth Ji, wishing you a Happy Birthday! May you lead a long and healthy life,” he tweeted. After years of speculation, Rajinikanth recently announced his decision to launch a political party and contest the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Initially, the Tamil superstar kept his fans and others guessing as he made no concrete promise on the launch of the party. He often came close to making an announcement but never took the decisive plunge.

Even on his birthday, Rajinikanth has not made his party’s core philosophy public. Political observers believe that his party would lean more towards the right and attract the BJP. The actor had earlier stated that his brand of politics would be ‘spiritual’ though no one has elucidated on what the word means.
Rajnikanth’s compatriot Kamal Haasan has been but more vocal about issues and his party, the Makkal Needhi Maiam had been actively undertaking various activities across the state. The two stars had recently met and Kamal Haasan had hinted at the possibility of his party taking the support of Rajinikanth too.
