Modi's tweet hints at social media exit, Rahul says give up hatred

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (March 2) said he is mulling to give up his social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube from next Sunday.

“This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube. Will keep you all posted,” the prime minister said in a tweet.

This comes as a surprise from a prime minister who hails from a party (BJP) that has extensive social media presence.

Currently, Modi has 53.3 million followers on Twitter and his Facebook page boasts of 44.7 million likes. On Instagram, he has 35.2 million followers and his YouTube channel has 4.5 million subscribers.

In a quip, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Give up hatred, not social media accounts.”
