Modi to launch scheme that will employ 1.25 crore workers in 31 UP districts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the much-anticipated Atmanirbhar UP Rojgar Abhiyan on Friday (June 26), a 125-day campaign to provide employment to migrant workers and others who lost their jobs due to COVID-19, under state and central schemes.
With all the 31 districts of the state covered under the scheme, it has been decided to provide work to almost 1.25 crore workers across 25 categories.
Modi will also interact with residents of six Uttar Pradesh villages at the launch. According to reports, people from villages will join the event through Common Service Centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

The scheme which is under the Centre’s Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan was virtually flagged off on June 20, in 116 districts of six states.
Soon after the Centre imposed a nationwide lockdown in view of the coronavirus pandemic, Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing a surge of labourers who were working in other states returning home – some 30 lakh so far.
