The BJP national executive will pass two resolutions, one political and another on the garib kalyan (pro-poor welfare) measures of the Narendra Modi government, the party said on Saturday with BJP president J P Nadda crediting the programmes for its win in state and local elections besides by-polls.

Nadda inaugurated the party’s national officer bearers’ meeting at International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, ahead of the two-day long Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive meeting.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Hyderabad and was welcomed by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Telangana Animal Husbandry minister T Srinivas Yadav and BJP party workers at the airport.

“Landed in the dynamic city of Hyderabad to take part in the @BJP4India National Executive Meeting. During this meeting we will discuss a wide range of issues aimed at further strengthening the Party,” he tweeted.

PM’s public meeting on Sunday

The Prime Minister will address a public at the Parade Ground on Sunday soon after the executive meeting ends. In his speech, the Prime Minister is expected to give a roadmap for the party in the coming times especially when they look at assembly elections in the states like Gujarat.

While the city was awash with huge banners and hoardings welcoming Prime Minister Modi, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) decided to not meet the PM. KCR instead received opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha at Begumpet airport, who arrived just a couple of hours before PM Modi.

Briefing reporters after the BJP office-bearers meeting, party vice president Vasundhara Raje said all important issues and prevailing political environment will be discussed in the national executive meeting. It will be decided in the executive meeting which topics are to be considered, she said.

She was replying to a question whether discussions will be held on the Udaipur killing in which a person was hacked to death by two men and the row over suspended party spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s derogatory comments about Prophet Mohammad.

The office-bearers meeting also discussed outlines of new organisational activities, including har ghar tiranga (Tri-colour at every home) exercise to reach 20 crore people which, she added, will unify the country. The party will also reach out to over 30 crore beneficiaries of the central government welfare schemes.

Senior party leaders to attend executive

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, chief ministers of 19 states and other BJP senior leaders will also be attending the National Executive meeting.

That the BJP is using the meeting as a springboard to capture power in the state is clear, with the party sending out its leaders across its 119 assemblies for two days to gather feedback.

On Friday, Nadda held a road show in Hyderabad after his arrival in the city. He later chaired a meeting of the party general secretaries in the evening where the agenda of the national executive meeting was discussed.

This will be the first physical meeting of the BJP’s key decision-making body outside the national capital after a gap of five years and the third in a southern state after coming to power in 2014. The BJP has done well in a few recent elections in the state, winning the by-polls of Huzurabad and Dubbaka constituencies and putting up an impressive show in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in 2020 where it won 48 seats.

Change in Yogi’s plans

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit Bhagyalakshmi Mata Mandir at Charminar on Sunday noon. He was earlier slated to visit the temple on Saturday afternoon but sources from the Hyderabad police said the Intelligence Bureau advised Adityanath against the visit in view of recent developments following the Nupur Sharma controversy in the country. BJP leaders from Telangana were reportedly unsure if the UP chief minister will visit the temple even on Sunday.
