An IIT-M assistant professor was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly planting his mobile phone inside the women's restroom in order to film the students. He was identified as Subham Bannerji, an assistant professor at the aerospace engineering department, according to police sources.


An assistant professor of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) was arrested on Wednesday (February 20) for allegedly planting his mobile phone inside the women’s restroom in order to film the students.

The faculty member was identified as Subham Bannerji, an assistant professor at the aerospace engineering department, according to police sources.

The issue came to light when a 30-year-old PhD student found the mobile phone near the window. Since it was facing her, she became suspicious and picked it up only to find its camera turned on in the recording mode.

According to The New Indian Express, she immediately rushed out, locked the neighbouring men’s restroom from outside and approached the security guards. When the guards opened the restroom door, Subham was found inside.

He was later arrested and the police have registered a case in this case.
