IAF chopper of Aligarh varsity put on sale on OLX, proctor calls it fake

In an apparent hoax, an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft installed on the premises of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was listed for sale on OLX, an online buying and selling platform, at a price of ₹9.99 crore, on Monday (August 3).

It was proved to be a fake advert after the university authorities denied having put any such post on OLX. The AMU proctor called it an attempt to defame the university.

“The post on OLX about the sale of aircraft installed in the campus is wrong. The university has not taken any step to auction or sell it. We are looking into the matter. It’s an attempt to defame the university,” varsity proctor Mohd Wasim Ali told ANI.

Ali, however, said no student was involved in the act.

The post was later deleted from OLX.

A probe has been ordered to nab the culprits behind the hoax.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN fighter aircraft was gifted by the IAF to the university in 2009. The aircraft inducted into the IAF on January 24, 1981 was used in the Kargil War of 1999 and was decommissioned on March 6, 2009.
