Footballer Bhaichung Bhutia to auction two jerseys for elections

In an attempt to raise money for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, former Indian football captain and working president of Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) Bhaichung Bhutia is auctioning two of his jerseys online. The Arjuna awardee is contesting from Gangtok and Tumin Lingee constituencies.

The footballer-turned-politician has been campaigning for a ‘clean’ election and “a better Sikkim.” Tweeting that “poverty is like punishment for a crime you didn’t commit”, Bhutia claimed that the Hamro party would eradicate poverty within two years and bring about systemic change in Sikkim.

“Many individuals are doing what they can. But real success can only come if there is a change in our society and in our economy and in our politics. So let’s come together and fight for clean politics,” he said in a tweet recently. The footballer has been collecting donations through payment gateway site Instamojo.
