RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya quits six months before his term

Viral Acharya, who was in-charge of the monetary policy department, has resigned on Monday (June 24), six months before the scheduled end of his term. This is the second high profile resignation, after Urjit Patel resigned nearly nine months before the end of his schedule term over differences with the government in the past six month at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Muslim youth beaten up by mob, asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’; dies days later

24-year-old Muslim youth in Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on June 18, was caught by an irate mob on charges of theft and asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’ while being mercilessly beaten up by men with sticks. The victim Tabrez Ansari succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (June 22), media reports said.

K’taka may get more ‘Silicon Valleys’ as govt opts to revise IT policy

In a bid to stretch the IT industry beyond Bengaluru, the Karnataka government plans to revise the Information Technology Policy and boost IT investment in Tier II and Tier III cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Shivamogga and Huballi among others. Cong hits out at govt for mishandling of economy, rising number of wilful defaulters

IOA might pull out of 2022 Commonwealth Games after shooting snub

Russia says new US sanctions on Iran are illegal

Russia on Monday (June 24) denounced as “illegal” new economic sanctions that the United States is preparing to impose on Iran. “We consider these sanctions illegal,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a briefing. Tensions between Washington and Tehran have flared since Iranian forces on Thursday shot down a US drone, the latest in a series of incidents including attacks on tankers in sensitive Gulf waters.
