Centre readies 'image correction' booklet after migrant crisis

After being heavily criticised by the opposition parties for not making enough efforts to help the stranded migrants and handle the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Centre is preparing to launch an “image correction” exercise.


After being heavily criticised by the opposition parties for not making enough efforts to help the stranded migrants and handle the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Centre is preparing to launch an “image correction” exercise.

Sources told NDTV that the drill may be launched on the same day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party complete a year since winning the general elections for a second five-year term in 2019.

A highly-placed government source told NDTV, “The government is compiling the various sectoral achievements. A booklet will be distributed to publicise the achievements. The achievements of all ministries should particularly highlight efforts to benefit the poor, women, farmers and the youth.”

According to reports, the booklet will contain what the government has done for the people, especially migrants. The move may act as a massive publicity campaign for the exercise.

The Modi government has been under fire from the opposition after stranded migrants, in a bid to reach home, started walking and were being charged when the special trains were arranged amid the lockdown. Many migrants on route have died too.

Several migrant workers feel that staying at home at this critical juncture brings in a sense of security. However, the lack of essentials is challenge.
