BJP MLA Akash Vijayavargiya, and son of top party leader Kailash Vijayavargiya, was arrested for attacking a municipal corporation officer with a cricket bat in Indore on Wednesday (June 26).
In a video that went viral, the senior BJP leader’s son was seen chasing and thrashing the staff, who was part of a team engaged in an anti-encroachment drive.
Justifying the assault, Akash said a team of municipality officials were trying to drive people out of their houses in Ganji compound area of Indore. Protesting this, he and his supporters began arguing with the officials, which later escalated into a physical confrontation, he claimed.
“I was very angry because the municipality officials came and vacated the house. There were women in the house and no women officials or police officers were found accompanying them. It is my responsibility to sort out the issues between the people and officials,” Akash said.
