All eyes on Udaipur as Congress gets set to conclude Chintan Shivir

The suggestions of the six party panels would be placed before the CWC; those that the CWC clears will be incorporated in the Udaipur Declaration

On the third and final day of Chintan Shivir, the Congress conclave being held in Udaipur, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is expected to finalise the Udaipur Declaration. The CWC meet  was scheduled for 11.30 am on Sunday, May 15.

The suggestions and recommendations of the six party panels that met over the past two days would be placed before the CWC for discussion and vetting. The recommendations that get the CWC’s approval will be incorporated in the Udaipur Declaration.

Contentious issues such as the constitution of a Parliamentary board for collective decision-making, fixed five-year term followed by three-year cooling period for office bearers, capping the age-limit for Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and Assembly tickets at 75, reservation for youth, SC, ST, OBC and minorities in party positions and the party’s socio-culture outreach (reaching out to Hindus while also trying to regain its space among religious minorities) will all be up for discussion at the CWC meet.

The convenors of the six coordination panels – Mallikarjun Kharge (political issues), P Chidambaram (economy), Mukul Wasnik (organisation), Salman Khurshid (social justice & empowerment), Bhupinder Hooda (farmers and agriculture) and Amarinder Singh Raja Warring (youth empowerment) – have submitted their reports to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Sonia will present these to the CWC and may make an opening statement before the meeting begins.
