Kerala Congress woman leader publicly shaves head over denial of ticket

Kerala Mahila Congress chief Lathika Subhash has resigned from her post over denial of ticket from Ettumannur seat for the state assembly elections.

In protest against the decision, she publicly tonsured her head in front of the KPCC office in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

Subahsh, who met reporters at the party headquarters Indira Bhavan here, soon after the party chief Mullappally Ramachandran announced the candidates list at New Delhi said it was short of women candidates.

It may be for the first time that any leader in any political party in Kerala had taken such a step to register their protest against the party leadership for denying poll ticket.

Earlier, the Congress on Sunday released its first list of 86 candidates for the upcoming Kerala assembly elections.

Former chief minister Oommen Chandy will contest from Puthuppally, while Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala has been fielded from Haripad Assembly constituency.

Sitting MP from Vadakara K Muraleedharan, who is the son of veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran, will contest in Nemom, the only seat in the state currently represented by the BJP. Kerala assembly poll will be held on April 6 and counting of votes will be on May 2.
