Thala fans paint town red as makers release trailer of 'Pink' remake

Nothing could prove the audience’s love and adoration for actor Ajith Kumar or fondly ‘Thala’ better than the overwhelming response that a two-minute trailer of his upcoming film ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ received on social media platform, even before it was released on Wednesday (June 12) evening.

Fans in some cases went to the extent of visiting theatres just to watch the trailer of the movie.

“The crowd turned up was really an unexpected number. Such craze for this Man,” tweeted Rakki Cinemas, the Twitter page of a theatre in Chennai.

Even though the trailer was released in the evening, it crossed 2,085,014 views within hours of its release. The hashtag #NerKondaPaarvaitrailer was trending from morning on Twitter.

Actors and directors including Siva Karthikeyan, Vignesh Shivan and Anil Kapoor appreciated the trailer and shared it on their walls.

The movie is an official remake of the Bollywood film ‘Pink’. The trailer was lauded by audience from all quarters with many appreciating Ajith and makers of the movie for being faithful to its original version.

But unlike the Hindi version, the Tamil trailer had a definite element of ‘mass’ moment for Thala and his fans. There are two scenes in the trailer which made fans go gaga over it. One, a fight scene – which made Thala’s hardcore fans excited and second is a court room scene, where he says, “Oruthar mela neenga viswasam kaatradhukaaga, innoruthara yen asinga paduthareenga?” (just because you want show your loyalty to someone, why do you degrade others).

In the film, Ajith has retained his popular salt and pepper look for his role. And the trailer begins with the iconic dialogue from the original, “Are you a virgin?”

Ajith plays a role of a lawyer, which was played by Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Pink’ while Shraddha Srinath plays Taapsee Pannu’s role in the Tamil version. Directed by H Vinoth of ‘Theeran: Adhigaaram Ondru’ fame, the movie is produced by Boney Kapoor which also marks his debut as producer in Kollywood. It also has Vidya Balan in a cameo and former news anchor Rangaraj Pandey, in the role of a lawyer. The music is scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Interestingly, Ajith reprised Big B’s role in the Tamil version of ‘English Vinglish’ which had Boney Kapoor’s wife Sridevi Kapoor in the lead. The film is expected to hit the screens on August 10.
