Chennai braces for the Great Indian Dog Show 2019

It’s a dog’s day out in Chennai on Thursday (August 15). The Phoenix Market City in Velachery will host the prestigious ‘Great Indian Dog Show 2019’ from 4 PM. The annual signature event, which has been hosted by the Blue Cross of India since 1984, will follow the motto of ‘adopt, don’t shop.’

The main objective of the show will be to educate everybody to embrace and celebrate Indian dogs (mongrels). The highlight of the event will be a ‘wacky dog show’, where pooches are judged based on categories like waggiest tail, best smile and craziest name.

The event will also have an adoption drive, where abandoned or orphaned puppies, kittens and dogs will get a chance to find home.

“We have been conducting the dog show from 1984 but unfortunately we weren’t able to organise it every year due to various reasons. But last year and this year we were able to conduct the event in a much larger venue. A lot of people have registered for the event. And we also have a surprise for our participants and visitors which will be revealed during the event. Also, we have lots of exciting stalls and participants can mingle with a diverse group,” said Arpitha Rao, manager-communications, Blue Cross.

Thousands of abandoned, unwanted and injured pets need help every year. Visitors can also give support by sponsoring them through ‘gift a smile’ initiative.
