'Adipurush' makers slammed for substandard VFX, cringey dialogues; PIL filed in Delhi HC
Prabhas-starrer Adipurush, which was released across cinemas worldwide on June 16, may have got a blockbuster start at the box office, the movie also drew flak for its “substandard visual effects” and “juvenile dialogues”.
While Hindu Sena has filed a writ petition in Delhi High Court against Adipurush demanding that the film not be certified for public exhibition, Shiv Sena’s (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi came down heavily on the makers of for using “pedestrian dialogues” in the film.
‘Depiction of religious figures inaccurate’
Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta’s PIL also claimed that the film’s depiction of religious figures was inaccurate and inappropriate, and that this would hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.
The petition further stated the depiction of Ravana, Lord Ram, Mata Sita and Hanuman in the film is contrary to the image and descriptions of these religious leaders/characters/figures as depicted in Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayan and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas. It added that the PIL has been filed for “the benefit of the public in general who may be incapable of accessing the court themselves because they are not fully/properly equipped, financially as well as legally”.
Meanwhile, Chaturvedi demanded an apology from the film’s makers and said the dialogues were disrespectful to the characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana. “The dialogue writer of Adipurush @manojmuntashir, as well as the director, should apologise to the nation for the pedestrian dialogues written for the movie, especially for Lord Hanuman,” she tweeted.
“It hurts every Indian’s sensibilities to see the kind of language being attributed to our revered gods in the name of entertainment. You make a movie on Maryada Purushottam Ram and cross all boundaries of Maryada for quick box office success is unacceptable,” she added.
Sagar’s son expresses displeasure
Prem Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar, who is best known for making the popular television show Ramayan, has also expressed displeasure over the movie. “Om Raut has tried to create Marvel via Adipurush. Dad too had used creative freedom while making Ramayan. But he understood Lord Ram. He made small changes after reading many books. But he never tried to tamper with the facts,” he said in an interview with Live Hindustan.
This is not all. The movie has received criticism from various quarters. Within hours of the film’s release, fans took to social media to condemn its visual effects and dialogues.
Helmed by Om Raut, and produced by Bhushan Kumar the film is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Sunny Singh as Lakshman. In the movie, Saif Ali Khan is seen essaying the role of Ravan.
