DMK’s Karthik Mohan confident of Villivakkam win, backs Stalin on delimitation
Rejects BJP’s anti-women charge, downplays Vijay factor, says grassroots connect and governance record will secure a comfortable win in Villivakkam
DMK candidate Karthik Mohan struck a confident note on his prospects in Villivakkam, asserting that the constituency remains a party stronghold and that its grassroots connect will ensure a comfortable victory.
In an interaction with The Federal, Mohan also weighed in on the contentious delimitation issue, backing Chief Minister MK Stalin’s opposition to any move that could reduce Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation. He said the party is not against increasing the number of seats but seeks clear assurance that the state’s share will not be diluted.
Backs Stalin on delimitation
“As long as our representation does not go down, we are fine. That is our primary concern,” he said, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks rejecting allegations of bias.

Mohan also rejected the BJP’s allegation that opposition parties are anti-women for questioning the women’s reservation bill. He pointed to Tamil Nadu’s record of providing 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies, arguing that the Centre is following a model already implemented by the DMK government.
Confident of ground support
On the ground in Villivakkam, Mohan said the response to his campaign has been overwhelmingly positive. He dismissed claims that actor Vijay’s appeal among youth and women could pose a challenge, saying such narratives are largely confined to social media.
“They are fighting on social media, but we are among the people, addressing their concerns directly,” he said.
Highlighting governance, Mohan cited the DMK government’s fulfilment of key promises, including financial assistance schemes for women, as evidence of credibility. He maintained that delivering on commitments has been central to the party’s political approach.
Counters dynasty criticism
Addressing criticism of dynastic politics, Mohan argued that his political background gives him experience rather than undue advantage. He stressed that he is contesting the election like any other candidate and that voters will ultimately decide.

Dismissing suggestions that his candidature has become a prestige battle, he said the presence of senior leaders during campaigning reflects personal support rather than heightened stakes.
