7 states ready for Phase 6; Arvind Kejriwal sends notice to Gambhir


Here are the latest election updates from various states across the country:

Uttar Pradesh

PM Modi said at a rally in Ghazipur: “I’ve been the longest serving chief minister of Gujarat. I am the Prime Minister for the past five years. See my bank account, show if there is a bungalow in Modi’s name. I’ve never saved anything for me or my family. Whatever I’ve done, it is for the nation and its citizens.”

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said: “In the 6th phase of elections, the BJP and the Congress will win zero seats. In the 7th phase they might win a few seats and the BJP will win only 1 seat in that phase.”

Delhi

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sent a legal notice to BJP’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir in reference to his tweets ‘I feel ashamed to have a CM like Arvind Kejriwal. You are filth Mr CM and someone needs your very own jhadu (broom) to clean your dirty mind.’ The notice to Gambhir sought an immediate apology in writing and asked to publish the same ‘along with true & correct facts’ in newspapers and on social media within 24 hours.

Aam Aadmi Party’s West Delhi candidate, Balbir Singh Jakhar’s son Uday Jakhar: “My father joined politics about three months ago and paid Arvind Kejriwal ₹6 crore for a ticket. I have credible evidence to prove that he paid for his ticket.”

Balbir Singh Jakhar, AAP candidate from West Delhi, on his son Uday’s allegation that his father paid Arvind Kejriwal ₹6 crore for a ticket: “I condemn the allegations. I have never discussed with my son anything about my candidature. I speak to him very rarely.”

Election Agent for Congress’ candidate from North-East Delhi, Sheila Dikshit wrote to Election Commission of India stating ‘complaint is made to bring the attention of the Commission on certain automated phone calls being used to spread misinformation in an attempt to influence the electorate.’

Actor Arun Bakshi joined the BJP in the presence of party leader and former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh.

Punjab

Actor-turned-politician and BJP candidate from Gurdaspur, Sunny Deol, held a road show there. The 13 Lok Sabha seats of the state will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of elections on May 19.

West Bengal

770 companies of central forces to be deployed in West Bengal for the sixth phase of elections.

Madhya Pradesh

Punjab Minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu in Indore: “I call him (Modi) Liar-in-Chief, Divider-in-Chief and Business Manager of Ambani and Adani.”

Congress president Rahul Gandhi addressed three public rallies in Madhya Pradesh —Shujalpur, Dhar, and Khargone.

AS Rathore, City SP, Dewas, on group of people raising Modi slogans at NS Sidhu’s Dewas rally: “A case has been registered, investigation is on. We’ll take action according to evidence. It was an event by the Congress party and it’s a matter of investigation as to which party those people belonged to.”
