RaGa attacks Modi over defence troops; battle heats up in Amethi


Here are the latest election related updates from the various states across the country:

Jharkhand

A polling station in Ramgarh, under Hazaribagh Lok Sabha constituency, was given the look of coaches of a train. The parliamentary constituency undergoes voting on May 6, in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Bihar

PM Modi in Ramnagar: “During Atal ji’s tenure three states were formed. Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar, Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh. These three states were separated cordially. But people with the mentality to separate the country divided Andhra and Telangana. It has been five years since the separation of both the states. Although both states speak Telugu they can’t see eye to eye.”

Jammu and Kashmir

Mehbooba Mufti: “Ramadan is approaching. People pray day and night and go to mosques, I would like to appeal to government of India that just like there was a ceasefire during Ramadan last year, crackdowns, search ops should be stopped so that people of J&K spend at least this one month in relief.”

Uttar Pradesh

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East), offered prayers at Hazrat Meer Imamuddin dargah in Amethi.

BJP President Amit Shah and Union Minister Smriti Irani held a road show in Amethi. Smriti Irani is the BJP candidate from Amethi parliamentary constituency. The constituency will undergo polling on May 6.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Kaiserganj BJP candidate: “Mayawati ji at a rally in Gonda called me a ‘gunda.‘ I would like to say that she is UP’s ‘gundi‘ and she threatened to throw me into jail after elections when in fact it is she who will go to jail.”

Maharashtra

An NCP meeting was held in Mumbai to discuss the current drought crisis in the state. Prominent leaders of the party, its MPs and MLAs were present at the meeting, held under the leadership of party president Sharad Pawar.

Delhi

Rahul Gandhi at a meeting said, “The Army, Air Force and Navy are not personal properties of Narendra Modi ji like he thinks. When he says that surgical strikes during UPA were done in video games then he is not insulting the Congress but the Army… Process is going on in Supreme Court and I made a comment attributed to SC so I apologised. I did not apologise to the BJP or Modi ji. Chowkidar chor hai will remain our slogan.”

Lt General (Retd) DS Hooda on Congress’ claim that six surgical strikes were carried out during UPA tenure: “Call it surgical strikes, call it cross border operations, they have been carried out in the past by the Army. I’m not aware of exact dates and areas that have been brought out.”

Manoj Tiwari on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s remark ‘Manoj Tiwari naachta bahaut acha hai, is baar kaam karne wale ko vote dena, naachne wale ko vote mat dena (Manoj Tiwari dances nicely. This time give your vote to someone who works and not someone who dances)’: “By abusing me he has directly insulted people of ‘purvanchal’ and the same people will now show him what are the consequences of it.”

Chandigarh

Chandigarh Nodal Officer issued a show-cause notice to BJP’s Kirron Kher stating ‘you have shared video on Twitter account which shows children being used for campaign through slogans ‘Vote for Kirron Kher’ and ‘Abki baar Modi sarkar.’ The administrator has demanded a reply within 24 hours.

Uttarakhand

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, along with other saints, filed a complaint with SSP Haridwar against CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury for his statement “Ramayana and Mahabharata are also filled with instances of violence and battles.”

Rajasthan

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said: “The Congress campaign has been very good and well managed. Due to which PM Modi and Amit Shah are focusing on Rajasthan and campaigning continuously. PM is doing three meetings in a day which means they are nervous now.”
