Opposition leaders slam exit polls, see it as attempt to set false narrative

With many of the exit polls throwing up a surprisingly large majority for the BJP-led NDA, opposition leaders have expressed serious doubts about the polls. West Bengal Mamata Banerjee was among the first to rubbish the exit polls as gossip. “The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip. I appeal to all Opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together,” she tweeted.

Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab CM, said, “There’s no accuracy in these exit polls. My guess is that we are going to do well. How can you be so accurate? In Punjab too, we are going to do better.”

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said, “The exit polls do not matter at all. It is unfortunate that they are trying to copy each and everything from Europe and America. We cannot have an exit poll here since the country is so diverse. The results will be in our favour.”

Sanjay Singh, AAP, said, “Exit poll figures are not always accurate. In states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chhattishgarh, BJP is going to repeat its performance (according to the exit polls). How can that be possible? Is it a joke or what?”

Mamata Banerjee, TMC, said, “I don’t trust Exit Poll gossip. The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip. I appeal to all Opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together.”

Omar Abdullah, NC, said, “If your exit poll doesn’t have a   (helicopter) flying around the studio you’ve already lost the battle for the viewers attention.”

Saraswathi, AMMK, said, “I don’t really trust the exit polls. In 2016, they said DMK will be back to power in Tamil Nadu, but then what happened? Definitely, it is going to be a different government at the centre. In TN, this is not Amma’s government; this is BJP’s government in TN.”
