India's COVID-19 tally crosses 34-lakh mark, 71,033 new cases reported


India’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 34-lakh mark on Friday (August 28) just two days after it crossed the 33-lakh mark, with 71,033 COVID-19 cases being reported over the last 24 hours, according to data released by covid19india.org.

There are 7,51,651 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, while the total number of confirmed cases stood at 34,55,609.

The death toll climbed to 62,675 with 980 people succumbing to the diseases in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8.39 pm showed.

Meanwhile, 57,645 people recuperated from the disease in the same period, taking the total number of recoveries to 26,40,708.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and went past 30 lakh on August 23.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 3,94,77,848 samples have been tested up to August 27 with 9,01,338 samples being tested on Thursday.

Maharashtra reports 14,361 new cases, 331 deaths

Maharashtra on Friday reported 14,361 COVID-19 cases, which pushed its overall tally to 7,47,995.

The death toll due to the virus reached 23,775 as the state reported 331 fatalities during the day.

Out of the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state, 1,80,718 are active ones.

As many as 11,607 people were discharged after recovery, taking the count of such patients to 5,43,170. As many as 13,01,346 people are under home quarantine and 34,908 in institutional quarantine.

So far, 39,32,522 tests have been carried out in the state.

Tamil Nadu reports 102 COVID-19 deaths, 5,996 new cases

Tamil Nadu on Friday saw 5,996 fresh coronavirus cases that pushed the tally to 4,09,238, while 102 deaths took the toll to 7,050.

At least 5,752 recoveries were recorded as the cumulative number of people cured rose to 3,49,682.

While the total infection count reached 4,09,238, active cases stood at 52,506.

The state has tested a total of 44,98,706 samples so far.

Andhra Pradesh crosses 4 lakh mark in COVID-19 cases; recoveries reach 3 lakh

Andhra Pradesh on Friday went past the grim mark of four lakh COVID-19 cases as over 10,000 were added for the third straight day.

The number of people cured of the infection increased to over three lakh.

It took just 10 days, the shortest span so far, for the number of coronavirus cases to swell from three to four lakh in the state.

Going by the pace at which new cases are being added, AP is expected to climb to the second spot, behind Maharashtra, in the overall national tally, surpassing neighbouring Tamil Nadu, which had crossed the four lakh mark on Thursday, in a day or two.

As on Friday, the COVID-19 count in Andhra read 4,03,616 total cases, 3,03,711 recoveries and 3,714 deaths. The active cases stood at 96,191.

At least 10,526 fresh positive cases were reported in the state from 61,331 tests.

Meanwhile, 8,463 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery while another 81 succumbed.

The state completed 35.41 lakh sample tests so far.

Andhra reached the 10,000 cases mark on June 24, 50,000 on July 20, one lakh on July 27, 1.50 lakh on August 1, two lakh on August 7, and the three-lakh mark on August 18.

It took 170 days for the state to go from just one to four lakh (cases) after the first person tested positive for the contagion on March 12.

COVID-19: 8,960 fresh cases reported in Karnataka, 136 deaths

Karnataka on Friday registered 8,960 new cases of coronavirus and 136 related fatalities, taking the total infection count in the state to 3.18 lakh.

The day also saw 7,464 patients getting discharged after recovery.

With 136 more deaths, the toll went up to 5,368.

As of August 28 evening, cumulatively 3.18 lakh COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 5,368 deaths and 2.27 lakh discharges.

It said, out of 86,347 active cases, 85,593 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 754 are in ICU.

Uttar Pradesh records 77 more COVID-19 deaths, 5,447 new cases

Uttar Pradesh recorded 77 more COVID-19 fatalities on Friday, taking the death toll to 3,294, while 5,447 new cases pushed the infection tally to 2,13,824 in the state.

Twelve deaths each were reported from Lucknow and Kanpur and four each were from Allahabad and Jhansi.

“In the last 24 hours, 5,447 fresh COVID-19 cases were found. There are 52,651 active cases in the state, while a total of 1,57,879 people have been discharged after recovering from the infection,” Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters
