Bengal’s COVID-19 count rises to 3 as Scotland-returnee test positive

The woman, a resident of Habra in North 24 Paraganas district, had returned from Scotland on March 16, and was subsequently hospitalised with COVID-19 symptoms. However, it is not clear whether she home quarantined herself before her hospitalisation.
This is the third confirmed case in the state. Both the persons, who had earlier tested positive, had returned from the UK. The first case, an 18-year-old son of a top bureaucrat, had reportedly skirted medical advice and refused isolation.
The West Bengal government has appealed to all persons returning from abroad, especially from the UK, US, Europe and Gulf countries, to confine themselves in home quarantine for a period of 14 days.
It has announced work on a rotational basis for state government employees and is also creating a state emergency fund for this cause. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced free rice for the poor via the public distribution system.
