2 Coimbatore police stations closed after 6 officers test COVID-19 positive


Two police stations in the Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu were closed dowb after six police officials posted in the stations tested positive for COVID-19 infection. ANI reported that the police stations which are temporarily closed down are located in the Podanur and Kuniamuthur areas of Coimbatore.

The police officials who tested COVID-19 positive are undergoing treatment at the ESI hospital in the city itself. The remaining staff of the two police stations were later temporarily shifted to private marriage halls for isolation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sumit Saran said that the remaining 105 police personnel at the two police stations who underwent coronavirus tests have reported negative. So far, India has reported a total of 26,496 active COVID-19 cases and 824 deaths. The Tamil Nadu government has announced a four-day complete lockdown, starting from April 26 in a few cities such as Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore, to prevent the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
