Maharashtra polls: NCP releases first list of candidates; Ajit Pawar fielded from Baramati

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is among the 38 candidates whose names the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) released on Wednesday (October 23) for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Ajit Pawar will contest from Baramati in Pune district. This is the first candidates’ list for the November 20 contest, the party said.
Besides re-nominating 26 sitting MLAs, including ministers who sided with Ajit Pawar when he joined hands with the BJP, the NCP has also nominated outgoing legislators Sulbha Khodke (Amravati) and Hiraman Khoskar (Igatpuri) who switched over from the Congress.
Bhujbal from Yeola
Bharat Gavit, son of Congress veteran late Manikrao Gavit, has been fielded from Navapur.
Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal will contest from Dindori and cabinet minister and veteran Chhagan Bhujbal from Yeola.
Former minister Rajkumar Badole, who was earlier with the BJP, has been given the ticket from Arjuni-Morgaon.
