How a TN YouTuber couple lost gold, cash worth Rs 1 cr: Manifesting wealth to inviting burglars

A night burglary at the home of popular YouTuber couple Vinoth Kumar and Madhumitha in VIP Garden at Thammattukonam near Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district has shaken the gated colony.

Thieves broke open the rear door and fled with 118 sovereigns of gold jewellery, diamond ornaments and cash valued at around Rs 1 crore. Rajakkamangalam police have registered a case and formed special teams.

The family left home around 5 p.m. on Thursday (September 24), for a shopping trip and returned near midnight. The front door would not open because it had been locked from inside.

Burglars enter through rear door

A carpenter was called to the house and found the back-door lock sliced open with a cutting machine. The bedroom bureau had been forced open, and the valuables were taken. The haul included about 944 grams of gold jewellery along with diamonds and Rd 50,000 in cash.

Vinoth Kumar, a Sivakasi businessman in the cardamom trade, and his wife Madhumitha, a lifestyle influencer originally from Coimbatore, had moved into the house about 10 months ago with their young daughter.

The couple is known for “manifesting” cash by pouring bundles of rupee notes over their girl child and posting the scenes as reels. Other videos showed Madhumitha wearing heavy gold jewellery at home, spreading currency across a mattress, performing ritual-style displays with Rs 500 notes, and showcasing jewellery kept in the puja room. Some clips also advertised monthly gold purchases and family outings. The reels went viral.

Police examine social media posts

When The Federal contacted Vinoth Kumar, he said that the family was “in shock” and did not want to divulge any further information. Police are examining whether the public posts, especially those disclosing travel plans and the presence of large amounts of cash and gold inside the house, helped the thieves time the raid while the home was empty.

In one widely circulated reel, Madhumitha appeared to taunt would-be thieves by saying the family had six houses and that no one would know where the gold was actually kept, adding that the jewellery shown on camera was only for the shoot and would be deposited in a bank locker afterwards.

The clip, meant as a show of confidence, instead drew more attention to the fact that large quantities of gold were being handled and filmed at home.

Special teams check CCTV, forensic evidence

VIP Garden is a gated neighbourhood with CCTV coverage and regular patrols, yet the burglars entered from the rear and escaped. Superintendent of Police Anshul Nagar visited the scene on Friday (September 25). Five to six special teams are checking the house, CCTV footage, forensic evidence and the couple’s social-media activity.

The couple’s reels did more than display gold and cash; they also announced when the house would be empty. Madhumitha routinely posted short videos and updates showing shopping trips, outings and family movements, including the Thursday evening clothes-shopping excursion.

Posts may have revealed burglary window

Those posts, combined with earlier clips that openly showed large quantities of jewellery and currency kept at home, gave anyone watching a clear picture of both the valuables inside and the window of opportunity.

Police said that the burglars appear to have followed the social-media timeline, waited until the family left around 5 pm and struck through the rear door while the house was vacant, turning a public “holiday visit” update into a practical tip for the theft.

The theft has left residents fearful and revived questions about how openly sharing wealth and movement on social media can become a tip for criminals. Police said that further investigation is on.
