Chennai Police register an FIR against the accused after the bank's CCTV captured the physical altercation in Adyar
A CCTV video showing Kayalvizhi Alagiri, granddaughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, allegedly slapping the manager of an NRI branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in Chennai has gone viral, prompting police to book her on charges of “assaulting and intimidating”.

The accused, daughter of former Union minister M K Alagiri, committed the act during a heated conversation with the bank official in his office cabin at downtown Adyar, and a CCTV camera recorded it, Chennai Police said.
Accused trying to hit bank manager during angry conversation
The footage showed another man sitting beside Kayalvizhi and trying to restrain her. She was also seen warning the person not to interfere and mocking and mimicking the bank manager before getting up and going after him. The manager moved his head backwards, trying to evade the slap. It seemed Kayalvizhi was not done and wanted to reach the manager on the other side of the table but was stopped by the third individual.
The incident, which happened on July 20, went viral on social media on Saturday (July 25).
A senior police officer said a first-information report had been registered based on the complaint received from the SBI official, identified as Harsheen Singh. He also shared the CCTV footage with the bank’s management.
Tiff over lift malfunctioning?
It was reported that the bank branch is located in a building allegedly owned by Kayalvizhi. When she visited the commercial property on the day of the incident, an argument ensued between her and the bank manager.

The argument was allegedly over a malfunctioning lift in the building. A grievance over the building’s maintenance snowballed into the physical altercation.
Investigators said the probe is underway, with the full sequence of events being looked into.
Kayalvizhi's father Alagiri was expelled by Karunandhi from his Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2014 on grounds of anti-party activities.
