A late-night dispute at a private bar near Chennai's Koyambedu flyover escalated into a horrific act of road rage early Saturday morning, leaving an 18-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil refugee woman dead and a minor girl critically injured.
The victims were travelling on a two-wheeler when a car carrying a group of men deliberately rammed into them under the Koyambedu flyover. The police have filed a case and arrested three accused, identified as Balamurugan (21), Joshwa (19) and Kishore Kumar (19).
The victim has been identified as Yancy (18), a Sri Lankan refugee living in Villupuram district. Police have registered a case against six individuals and have already arrested three suspects.
According to Chennai Police, the fatal collision was a deliberate act of road rage stemming from a violent dispute that began inside a nearby nightclub.
Fateful altercation
Yansi and her 17-year-old friend were dancing at a private club in Koyambedu, when a verbal argument broke out between their group and another group of men. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical scuffle.
Club security intervened to break up the fight and escorted both groups out of the venue.

The dispute reignited near a local shop outside the club. Bouncers were forced to step in a second time to separate the parties and send them away. Yansi and her friend left the area on a two-wheeler, heading toward Thirumangalam. While on the road, Yansi's friend allegedly threw stones at the rival group's car.
Infuriated by the stone-throwing, the men in the car accelerated, chased down the two-wheeler, and intentionally rammed into them under the Koyambedu flyover.
Tragic death
Yansi tragically died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. While her friend sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment. Following the tragedy, Yansi’s family has demanded the strictest possible punishment for all the individuals involved in her death.
Officials have sealed the private bar in Koyambedu. The immediate closure was ordered after investigations revealed that management had violated local laws by permitting minors under the age of 18 into the venue.
Case registered
The police have registered a case against the six individuals involved in the crime and have already seized the car used to ram the two-wheeler. A special police team has been formed to track down and apprehend the remaining three suspects who are currently on the run.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
