Prakash Raj claims name removed from Bengaluru Voter roll amid Karnataka SIR exercise

Actor Prakash Raj on Tuesday (August 11) alleged that his name has been struck off from the electoral roll in Bengaluru. His remarks come at a time when the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise is going on in Karnataka.
Raj in sarcastic reaction to the alleged deletion dubbed it as a “joke” adding that he was born and brought up in Bengaluru where he studied and worked.

Asking which documents he needs to produce to get his name back in the electoral roll, Raj said that he would look into the process of doing the same.

“I am one of the 65 lakh voters whose vote right has been deleted from Bangalore constituency after SIR. Nice joke, no?” he said, questioning what documents he would now need to submit to get his name back. “Kya kya kaagaz dikhana padega?” he said as quoted by the Hindustan Times.
“Game on. Let me see what is the process I have to go through to get back my voter ID is,” he added.
Questions voter deletion
The veteran actor questioned whether authorities could prevent citizens from exercising their political powers asking “You can use your powers to deny a few of the citizens the right to vote who may not elect you. But can you stop us, my dear friend, from our power of bringing you down?”

Meanwhile, the release of Karnataka’s draft electoral roll under the SIR exercise has been pushed back. As per a revised programme issued by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the draft roll will now be published on August 24, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 27.
The updated timeline comes after a communication sent by the Election Commission of India on August 7. Despite the changes in the schedule, October 1, 2026, continues to remain the qualifying date for the revision process.
Karnataka roll timeline revised
Raj had earlier voiced his discontent over the police action against students who were protesting in Ranchi and attempting to march towards the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Sharing a video from the demonstration on his X account, Raj reposted footage purportedly recorded at the protest venue. The visuals appeared to show security personnel using tear gas and carrying out a lathi charge as they moved to disperse the gathering.
Reacting to the scenes, the actor wrote, “Why .. Why .. Why. This brutality will not work anymore.. it will only bring the arrogant power down.”
