The Karnataka government is preparing to effectively handle possible natural disasters in the state and a potential drought situation caused by the "Super El Nino" effect.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara held a meeting today at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru with senior officials regarding disaster management, reviewed the measures taken so far, and discussed in detail issues such as rainfall deficit, drinking water shortage, and fodder problems for livestock.

He held extensive discussions with officials on the possible impact in the state due to the super El Nino effect as part of global climate change, problems people may face due to rainfall shortage, and the possibility of drought conditions developing in some regions of the state, his office said in a statement.
Considering the potential drought situation, he instructed that district-wise action plans should be prepared regarding the availability of drinking water, fodder for livestock, management of agricultural activities, and water conservation. He also asked top officials to issue necessary instructions to all Deputy Commissioners and Zilla Panchayat CEOs.

He directed officials to continuously monitor reservoir water levels, groundwater conditions, and water usage.

Parameshwara said that in the event of any natural disaster or drought situation, the concerned departments must work in coordination and take swift action to ensure that the public does not face inconvenience.
He also instructed that permissions for drilling borewells for drinking water should be granted quickly and without delay. In this regard, coordination with the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department is essential.
