Technical maintenance work is being undertaken for 24 hours from Thursday (June 25) to upgrade the Karnataka State Data Centre (KSDC), which serves as the backbone of most digital services offered by the state government.

In view of this, there will be a shutdown to government online services, and the public has been requested to cooperate, Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge has said.

"The e-office software will be upgraded to a newer version on June 27 and 28 to enhance security. The system will be back online on Monday morning," principal secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey said.

The State Data Centre is one of the most critical components of the government's digital infrastructure. It powers departmental web portals, citizen service platforms, issuance of caste and income certificates, e-Office services, and databases for various welfare schemes. Virtually every digital government service is managed through this facility.

With rapid technological advancements and a significant increase in the number of citizens using online services, modernising the existing system had become essential. At a time when cyberattacks are becoming increasingly frequent, the upgrade aims to strengthen security measures to safeguard government data.

It is also intended to enhance system capacity so that websites function faster and do not slow down or crash when accessed by large numbers of users. In addition, the modernisation will help ensure uninterrupted 24/7 service and minimise disruptions caused by technical issues.

Impact on the public

Services accessed through the Seva Sindhu portal, including certificates, RTC copies, GBA (Greater Bengaluru Authority) services, and applications offered by various departments, will be affected.

The minister clarified that the maintenance has been scheduled during holidays to minimise inconvenience to citizens. Had the work been carried out on working days, it would have significantly disrupted office operations. Therefore, the holiday period has been chosen for the exercise.

The minister appealed to citizens to view the disruption as a temporary inconvenience lasting only two days. In return, they will benefit from services that are significantly better in terms of quality, reliability, and speed. He urged the public to support the government's efforts.

The minister expressed confidence that, once the maintenance work is completed, the state's entire digital government network will become stronger and more resilient.
