Freedom Habba in Bengaluru: How to register for August 15 event?

The entry for ‘Freedom Habba’ is only through prior registration and there is no on-the-spot registration, the organisers said


On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, the Karnataka government is organising ‘Freedom Habba’ for the public in Bengaluru on August 15 in front of the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha.

“Freedom Habba is Bengaluru's first-ever Independence Day people’s carnival, bringing together culture, music, food, art and community at the iconic Vidhana Soudha. From 12:00 noon to 05:00 pm on August 15,” the organisers said.

“Bengaluru's first-ever freedom carnival welcomes you to a celebration, of the people, for the people and by the people. Bringing together culture, music, food, art and community at the iconic Vidhana Soudha,” it added.

How to register for Freedom Habba

Entry is permitted only to registered participants with a valid QR code. Children below 12 years may enter without separate registration when accompanied by a registered parent or guardian. ⁠Entry will not be permitted without valid registration and a QR code, the Bengaluru City Police said in an advisory.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the event was being organised in the city on this scale for the first time

Around 18,000 citizens have already registered for the Freedom Habba, and only registered persons aged 12 and above will be allowed entry. A QR code-based entry system has been put in place, with one person permitted per QR code, he said.

Entry and exit times, dress code

Entry time: 12 PM to 2 PM only; Exit time: 5 PM

3. Cubbon Park through the High Court Gate

Dress code: Ethnic. Carrying your original Aadhaar Card for identity verification at the venue is mandatory, organisers said.

Vidhana Soudha Metro Station closed till 9:30 PM

On the day of the event, Ambedkar Veedhi will be completely closed to traffic from 11 am.

A separate traffic advisory will be issued. Vidhana Soudha Metro Station will remain closed from 10 AM to 9:30 PM on Saturday (August 15). Visitors can get off at Vishweshwaraya or Cubbon Park Metro stations and proceed to the venue.
