Twisha Sharma death case: Bhopal Police likely to seek remand of husband Samarth Singh

The husband of the deceased, Twisha Sharma, the prime accused in her death case, Samarth Singh, was brought to Bhopal following his arrest in the early hours of Saturday (May 23), with police expected to seek his custodial remand for further questioning.
According to a PTI report quoting police sources, Singh was taken to the Katara Hills police station in the early hours of Saturday after being handed over to the Bhopal Police. He had remained untraceable for more than a week after an FIR was registered against him and his mother in connection with the case.
Police confirm custody
Confirming the development, Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said Singh had been taken into custody and would be produced before a court within the stipulated time.

"He (accused Samarth Singh) has been taken into custody, and our police team is handling this entire process. We have to produce him before the court within twenty-four hours. So we will produce him within the given time," Kumar told ANI.
Anticipatory bail plea withdrawn
The development comes a day after Singh withdrew his anticipatory bail plea before the Madhya Pradesh High Court and later reached the Jabalpur District Court to surrender. However, according to his counsel, Jaideep Kaurav, court proceedings had already concluded by the time he arrived.

"He appeared before the Jabalpur District Court to surrender himself, but the court was not available. The judge had already left as the court timing was over. After that, the Jabalpur Police took him into custody and handed him over to the Bhopal Police," Kaurav said.
Transfer to Bhopal police station
Police vehicles carrying Singh, his lawyer and members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reached the Katara Hills police station shortly after midnight.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old resident of Noida, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family has alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment, while her in-laws have maintained that she had been struggling with drug addiction.
Family demands surrender in Bhopal
Meanwhile, advocate Anurag Srivastava, appearing for Twisha Sharma's family, said the accused should have surrendered before authorities in Bhopal, where the case is being investigated.
"The trial court is in Bhopal, and the investigating officer is also in Bhopal, he (Samarth Singh) should surrender before them...If he wants to surrender, he should do it in the trial court or in front of the investigating officer," he told reporters.
