The results of the Haryana Assembly election, announced on October 8, was full of surprises. After early leads, the Congress saw its numbers slipping, and the BJP sailed to a hat-trick win in the state.

The state Legislative Assembly has 90 seats. A profile of the new house presents some interesting numbers.

While the BJP got substantially more seats this time — 48 against 40 in 2019 — the Congress did better, too. It got 37 seats this time against 31 in 2019. The JJP, a regional party, appears to have lost out to the two national parties. Against 10 seats in 2019, it drew a blank this time.

There are more women MLAs this year, at 13. In 2019, just 9 MLAs were women.
