Haryana, J&K results: How parties have done in terms of vote share

According to the Election Commission of India (EC) website, in Haryana, the BJP is leading in 49 seats and won one while the Congress is ahead in 34 and claimed victory in one constituency


The BJP is set to complete a hat-trick of wins in Haryana while the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance is set to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the trends from the vote counting for both Assembly elections, on Tuesday (October 8).

In the morning, it was a see-saw battle between the BJP and Congress in Haryana, and now (as of 1:26 pm trends), the BJP has crossed the halfway mark in the 90-seat Assembly.

According to the Election Commission of India (EC) website, the BJP is leading in 49 seats and won one while the Congress is ahead in 34 and claimed victory in one constituency (as of 1:26 pm).

Vote share in Haryana

According to EC’s website, the Congress’ vote share is 39.92 per cent while the BJP’s vote share is 39.67 per cent. As per the latest trends, both the BJP and Congress have increased their vote share from previous Assembly election in 2019.

In 2019, the BJP won 40 seats in Haryana with a vote share of 36.5 per cent. The Congress bagged 31 seats with a vote share of 28.1 per cent. Five years ago, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) was the third biggest party with 10 seats and a vote share of 14.8 per cent.

Vote share in J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference is leading in 39 seats and won in three. The BJP is ahead in 23 and had won six. The Congress is leading in six seats in the 90-member Assembly.

The BJP has the highest vote share with 25.87 per cent followed by NC with 23.31 per cent. The Congress’ vote share is 11.93 per cent.

In the previous election in 2014, NC had a vote share of 21.14 per cent while the BJP had 26.23 per cent. The Congress’ vote share was 18.36 per cent. The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats and a vote share of 23.85 per cent.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections were held this year after a gap of 10 years.
