Who is Bhavitha Mandava, Indian model named in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia?
From being discovered on a New York subway to opening Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection, the Hyderabad-born model’s rise has been swift
From a chance encounter on a New York subway to walking some of fashion’s most prestigious runways, Bhavitha Mandava’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. The 26-year-old model from Hyderabad has now earned a place on the latest Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in The Arts category (Art and Style, Food and Drink), which recognises some of the region’s most promising young achievers across a range of fields.

Mandava is among the names featured in the coveted list this year. Now in its 11th edition, the annual ranking highlights young entrepreneurs, creators and innovators who are shaping the future at a time when technology, artificial intelligence and cultural influence are increasingly driving change.
From subway to Chanel
A little over a year ago, Mandava was a student living in New York City, going about her daily routine like many other young people. Then, in October 2024, an ordinary subway journey altered the course of her life.
She was discovered by a modelling scout during her commute, setting in motion a rapid rise in the international fashion industry.
In December 2025, she created history by becoming the first Indian model to open Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection. The milestone was made even more notable by the fact that she walked as the muse of Matthieu Blazy, the celebrated artistic director of the French luxury label. The appearance quickly established her as one of the fashion world’s most closely watched emerging talents.
More than a model
Her association with Chanel continued to deepen. In March this year, Mandava was appointed a Chanel house ambassador, further strengthening her position as one of the brand’s prominent new global faces.
A few months later, she achieved another major milestone when she made her Met Gala debut in New York in May, appearing at what is widely regarded as fashion’s biggest night. The appearance, however, also generated considerable discussion.

Yet Mandava’s story extends beyond runway appearances and luxury fashion campaigns. Forbes acknowledged not only her professional achievements but also what she represents for young Asians, particularly young girls aspiring to enter spaces where representation has often been limited.
“I think about brown girls who might feel that something has shifted in what they believe is possible for them. I know that feeling, because I've been that girl too,” Mandava said.
