Putin praises PM Modi’s push for peaceful resolution to Ukraine conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Narendra Modi has “good ideas” for a mutually acceptable and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly raising the need to end the Ukraine conflict, saying that the Indian leader has “good ideas” for a peaceful resolution.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of those world leaders who, despite our very good and even friendly relations, personal good relations, constantly raises the question and asks about putting an end to the conflict in Ukraine,” Putin said, as quoted by ANI.

Putin said that PM Modi has continued to push for a solution acceptable to both sides and thanked him for backing a peaceful end to the fighting.

“He has an avid interest and very good ideas aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions. In that sense, naturally, the Prime Minister takes a neutral position but with an interest in the end of the conflict. I think it's my duty to say that directly. And we are thankful to the Prime Minister for his ideas,” said Putin.
“We are thankful for his desire to put an end to this conflict through peaceful means and as soon as possible,” he added.
PM Modi calls for dialogue, diplomacy
PM Modi has repeatedly called for dialogue and diplomacy to end the Russia-Ukraine war. In an August interview with Japanese newspaper The Yomiuri Shimbun, he said India had maintained its position on the conflict.

“India has maintained a principled and humanitarian stance on the conflict which is equally appreciated by both President Putin and President Zelenskyy,” PM Modi said.
He said both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had spoken to him about the conflict. Modi said he had urged them to pursue dialogue.
'India backs peaceful settlement'
“In line with this, both the leaders spoke to me to share their perspectives on the developments related to the conflict. I reiterated India's principled and consistent stand and encouraged dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict,” he said.

PM Modi was also asked what role India could play in efforts to end the war. He said New Delhi was ready to back efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement.
“I have already indicated India's willingness to support meaningful efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” he said.
