Indian man gets 10-year prison sentence in US for child sexual abuse material offences
The accused Ashish Kapoor, has been sentenced to 121 months in a US prison after being convicted of transporting and possessing child sexual abuse material
An Indian man was sentenced to over 10 years in jail after he was convicted of transportation and possession of child pornography in the US.
According to a Department of Justice release, the accused Ashish Kapoor (28), also known as Romy Kapoor, was awarded the prison sentence on July 8 by a Louisiana district court judge, Greg G. Guidry.
Sentence and penalties
The court also ordered five years of supervised release and a mandatory special assessment fee of USED 200. The judge also ordered him to pay USED 3,000 in restitution to a victim and register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act upon his release from prison.

“United States District Judge Greg G. Guidry sentenced KAPOOR to one-hundred and twenty-one (121) months in prison, five (5) years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $200.00. Judge Guidry also ordered KAPOOR to pay restitution in the amount of $3,000 to a victim. KAPOOR will also be required to register pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act upon release from prison,” stated the release.
Court findings
The release further stated that, according to court documents, Kapoor admitted to possessing more than 600 images depicting the sexual abuse of minors. He further stated that the “items contained sadistic or masochistic conduct, as well as depicting the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers”.

According to the Department of Justice, Kapoor travelled from Mumbai to New Orleans, Louisiana on or about February 21, 2024 and carried a mobile phone containing digital videos and computer images containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Arrest and confession
On April 11, Kapoor also downloaded “a video depicting the sexual abuse of a child” using the internet connection at his New Orleans residence. The accused was arrested on December 20, 2024.

“On December 20, 2024, Special Agents with the United States Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations, and officers with the New Orleans Police Department arrested KAPOOR. In a recorded statement, KAPOOR confessed that he had seen and received child pornography using Whatsapp on his cellular phone,” stated the release.
Project Safe Childhood
The Department of Justice said the case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice,” stated the release.
