ED attaches Rs 200 crore worth assets in Andaman bank fraud case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has attached hotels, resorts and land parcels worth Rs 200 crore in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as part of a money laundering probe.
These assets were "directly or indirectly" derived out of, or involved in, the Rs 500 crore fraud committed at the Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Ltd (ANSCBL).
A total of 51 immovable properties worth Rs 200.02 crore have been attached after a provisional order was issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the federal agency said in a statement.
These properties stand in the names of the accused persons, their family members, close associates and companies and firms controlled by them, the ED said. It, however, did not specify as to exactly whom the attached assets belonged to.
The attached properties were acquired from various landowners and farmers in the name of dummy directors and shell companies through powers of attorney to conceal the actual consideration amount, as per the agency.

Ireland suffer major blow, captain Paul Stirling ruled out of remainder of T20 WC due to injury
Ireland suffered a major blow on Friday as their captain Paul Stirling was ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup after sustaining ligament damage to his right knee, ahead of their group match against Oman.
Stirling hurt his right knee when completing a catch during Ireland's 67-run loss to Australia here on Wednesday. The experienced captain aggravated the injury later in the same match when he attempted a quick single after returning to the crease to bat.
The T20 World Cup Event Technical Committee has approved a replacement player for Stirling, with uncapped youngster Sam Topping joining Ireland's 15-player squad with immediate effect.
Ireland will face Oman in their Group B match in Colombo on Saturday.
Topping is a left-handed opening batter who last year featured for Ireland A in their four-day match against Afghanistan A in Abu Dhabi.
"Topping was named as a replacement when Stirling was ruled out after sustaining knee ligament damage while fielding during Ireland’s match against Australia on 11 February," the ICC said in a statement.

Kerala becomes first state to adopt comprehensive urban policy
Kerala on Friday (February 13) became the first state in the country to adopt a comprehensive urban policy, setting out a long-term development roadmap as it moves steadily toward a more urban future.
The policy envisions Kerala in 2050 as “a continuous network of climate-smart cities and towns, ensuring scientific planning and good governance.”
The state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, cleared the draft Urban Policy prepared by the Local Self Government Department, bringing to a close nearly two years of sustained work, according to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office.

Seva Teerth: Does India's new seat of power mark end of Colonial Era?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (February 13) inaugurated Seva Teerth, the new complex housing the Prime Minister's Office, bringing to a close nearly 78 years of operations from the British-era South Block. The relocation marks a symbolic departure from colonial administrative structures as India moves its power centre to purpose-built modern facilities.
The name "Seva Teerth”, meaning "place of pilgrimage for service”, reflects the government's vision of citizen-centric governance. The complex consolidates three critical institutions under one roof: the PMO, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the Cabinet Secretariat — all previously scattered across different locations in the Central Vista area.

A new trade game in South Asia, where 'reciprocal' means 'unequal'
On February 9, the US signed a Reciprocal Trade Agreement with Bangladesh. In a single stroke, Washington handed Dhaka something it has denied New Delhi: zero-duty access for several categories of textiles and apparel, coupled with quotas and a preferential 19 per cent tariff wall for other goods.
What has unfolded in the past week is not merely a shuffling of trade preferences. It is a paradigm shift — and a dangerous one. South Asia is now the laboratory for a 21st-century iteration of “beggar-thy-neighbour” economics, dressed in the language of reciprocity but animated by the logic of competitive appeasement.

My offer on 'power-sharing' has become a political bomb in TN, says Vijay
TVK chief Vijay on Friday (February 13) asserted that his offer to share power with allies has turned out to be a "political bomb" in Tamil Nadu, as that has become a demand in all alliances and "rattled" DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has refused to share power with Congress.
Assuring a social justice- driven regime if voted to power, Vijay, addressing a rally at Seelanaickenpatti near Salem, he said: "Do you remember my political bomb at the Vikravandi rally; offering to share power? It is now exploding recklessly in all the alliances, CM Stalin sir is rattled, and he says that power sharing will not suit Tamil Nadu."
"My goal is to stand with the people as Tamil Nadu's first soldier, protector." Seeking to demonstrate that his political entry is shaking the established bipolar politics of the state he said: "Do you remember my political bomb at the Vikravandi rally; offering to share power? It is now exploding recklessly in all the alliances, CM Stalin sir is rattled and he says that power sharing will not suit Tamil Nadu." For the DMK, the alliance is only to win polls and for all other things, such as governance, they will be on their own. Interestingly, when Vijay referred to "other things" he made a gesture which clearly meant money, apparently targeting the DMK.
Mocking at what he described as non-starter alliance arithmetic and old time calculations of rivals to win, he said none of it would work. Dreams to buy votes by giving money will not be fulfilled now that he has entered politics, he asserted.

Uttarakhand: Businessman shot dead in Dehradun, second murder in city in 48 hours
A businessman was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailants near Silver City Cinema in Dehradun city early Friday morning, police said.
This is the second murder in the city in the last 48 hours and the third in 11 days. Dehradun Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar informed that the incident occurred around 1.15 am when Vikram Sharma (50) was coming out of the gym.
He added that Sharma owned a stone crusher in Udham Singh Nagar district. The string of three murders in Dehradun over the past two weeks has created an atmosphere of fear and unease among residents.
On Wednesday, a gas agency owner was shot dead in broad daylight outside the Tibetan Market, located in the city centre. Additionally, on February 2, a 22-year-old woman was murdered, her throat slit with a sharp weapon, police said.
