Gen Z slang invades Parliament as MPs invoke ‘kuchu puchu’, ‘FOMO’, ‘wasteguna huiya’
Both treasury and Opposition MPs use Gen Z lingo during debate on anti-paper leak bill days after massive students’ protests forced govt to initiate key reforms
A few days ago, when Gen Z protesters stormed the streets of Delhi, demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union education minister over the paper leak issue, they didn’t leave their rizz behind. They carried themselves with confidence and oodles of sass – very much evident in the way they protested, faced armed security personnel, and wrote their placards.
Now the very Gen Z energy and their lingo have crept into the hallowed halls of Parliament, with MPs across party lines borrowing a few popular ones for their speeches.

Words and phrases like ‘delulu’, ‘FOMO’, ‘wastaguna huiya’ and ‘MIA’, often limited to Gen Z circles, were invoked by MPs in both the treasury and Opposition benches during the debate on the crucial Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
‘They were MIA, then came FOMO’
Among the first few MPs to invoke GenZ lingo was Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde while criticising the Opposition over its July 20 protest outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I would like to sum up the Opposition’s protest in Gen Z language. They were MIA (missing in action) for the first 37 days…then came FOMO (fear of missing out)….Finally they became delulu (delusional), believing the protesting students would join them, but no one did,” he said.
‘Wasteguna Huiya’
Congress MP Deepender Singh used the nonsensical GenZ catchphrase ‘wasteguna huiya’ to hit out at the government. He also referred to the now-viral expression of ‘kuchu puchu’. Slogans saying ‘Kuchu puchu (an affectionate nickname for someone cute) resign today’ meant for Pradhan were widely used by the students during the protest.
‘Modi clocked it’
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj used the Instagram slang of ‘clock it’ (meaning to notice or recognise something) to give credit to the Narendra Modi government for its initiative to introduce the Bill.

“Where Congress created a policy vacuum, Modi clocked it, if I may borrow the language of Gen Z, and created a solution,” she said.
Slang fever
Her fellow BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, while slamming the Opposition, said it was “delulu” for believing that students were supporting it because of the paper leak. He asserted that students were more concerned about reforms than in political brownie scoring.
“As they say in Gen Z language, you need to fix the source code to fix the system,” he said.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, who initially scowled at the trend, calling it absurd, found herself using ‘delulu’ moments later.
