Nine suspected terrorists with links to Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and the Mumbai underworld have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police for allegedly plotting attacks on key installations and security personnel in Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities.

Pakistan-based handlers

According to the investigators, a large stockpile of arms and explosives, including modern pistols, grenades and other items, was seized from the possession of the accused.

Arms seized, targets identified

Initial findings in the case suggest that the accused were allegedly in contact with operatives supported from across the border and were being guided on possible targets, officials said. Investigators suspect that the group was preparing to strike strategic installations as well as security personnel.

Those taken into custody are reportedly residents of multiple states, including Delhi, Maharashtra and Punjab. The detained group also includes certain foreign nationals, though authorities have not yet revealed their identities or countries of origin.

Underworld connection probed

According to officials, security agencies are examining the suspected connections between the accused and elements of the Mumbai underworld. Investigators believe criminal networks may have been utilised to facilitate funding, logistics and the movement of operatives linked to the module.

The Special Cell has launched a detailed probe into the financial transactions, communication data and broader network allegedly associated with the accused.

Search for wider network

Agencies are also working to ascertain whether additional members of the network are operating elsewhere in the country and whether any reconnaissance activities were carried out ahead of the planned attacks.
