Cockroach Janata Party's X account withheld in India after surpassing BJP on Instagram
The satirical political outfit, which recently overtook BJP in Instagram followers, said its X account was withheld in India following a legal demand
Within hours after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) overtook the BJP on Instagram in terms of number of followers, the X account of the fledgling outfit, gaining popularity for its satirical stand on Indian politics, was withheld in India.
Instagram surge draws attention
CJP's follower count rose on Instagram sharply within days of its formation and currently stands at around 13.5 million followers, exceeding the BJP's following on the platform.

The development comes at a time when the organisation, popularly referred to as CJP, had begun attracting attention for its satirical commentary on Indian politics and its sharp online messaging.
It follows a swift rise in the outfit's social media footprint, with the party gathering substantial support and engagement within a short period after its launch. The account, operating under the username CJP_2029, is now displaying a notice reading “Account Withheld” in bold text, followed by the message, “@CJP_2029 has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”
X restriction follows legal demand
Sharing a screenshot of the message appearing on the social media platform, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke wrote in the caption, “As expected Cockroach Janta Party’s account has been withheld in India.”

According to X such actions are carried out under specific legal circumstances. The platform stated that content restrictions can be imposed after it receives a “valid and properly scoped request from an authorised entity” and when “it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time.”
“Such withholdings will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued the valid legal demand or where the content has been found to violate local law(s),” it said.
Satire-driven outfit gains momentum
In one of its recent posts, the CJP appeared to mock BJP after overtaking it in follower count. “World’s largest party they said,” the caption read.
The CJP was launched by Dipke following online criticism surrounding Chief Justice Surya Kant's remarks comparing certain unemployed youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites”.
The organisation describes itself as a satirical political outfit and says eligibility for joining includes being “unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and ability to rant professionally”.
Founder flags account access attempts
Dipke, 30, has previously worked as a political communication strategist and was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, where he handled social media and election campaign operations.
